STARTUP BASE’S IDEA OF THE DAY
3 June 2026

CoolPass: A Subscription for Staying Cool
We love a business that takes something people already need for free and makes it reliable enough to pay for. Cooling is the new one. Every summer it gets worse, and right now your only options are buy a coffee you don't want just to sit in the AC, or melt. Here's what we're thinking.

💡 The Idea:
A city-wide membership that gets you guaranteed access to "cooling zones" across partner cafes, malls, and kiosks, plus portable cooling delivered to outdoor worksites.

🛠️ Product:
Members get a card (or an app pass). Walk into any partner venue, tap the NFC card or scan the QR on a store tablet, and you're into a marked CoolPass zone where AC is prioritized and a seat is reserved. Relief in seconds, no awkward "do I have to order something" dance.

For the B2B side, branded cooling vans and portable evaporative coolers get dispatched to construction sites and outdoor worksites, routed in real time. Corporates pay for it as a CSR and worker-safety line item, which is exactly the budget that's under regulatory pressure right now.

The magic moment: it's 44 degrees, you tap a card, and ten seconds later you're sitting in cold air in a reserved seat. No haggling, no guilt.

💵 The Model: $5/month per member, blended gross margin around 65% once partner revenue-shares and fleet costs are in. The digital access piece is almost pure margin (a check-in costs you basically nothing), and the fleet/CSR contracts are where the big-ticket money sits. Layer corporate sponsorship packages on top and the unit economics get fun.

🚀 The Scale Play: Start with one city, 50 partner outlets and a small co-funded fleet, with a climate NGO for credibility. Once the network exists, you're not selling cooling, you're selling guaranteed access infrastructure, the kind of thing cities and corporates sign annual contracts for. The endgame is becoming the default "temperature resilience" utility, which is a category that only gets bigger every summer.

💰Founder Fuel - The Big Money News, made simple.

🤑 Money Shot: "We deliver groceries to corner shops in 60 minutes." That one line just raised Fairdeal.Market a $15M Series A from Bertelsmann India. While everyone fights over AI wrappers, the real money is quietly going to whoever fixes India's 13 million kirana stores. Boring scales.

📈 Trend with Benefits: This week's one-chart reality: Indian startups raised just $52M across 14 deals (May 25-29), a 44% drop from the week before. The money that's moving is crowding into AI, semiconductors, and deeptech, anything sitting close to a budget line a board already understands. Translation: "modern software" isn't enough anymore, you need to be near money that's already being spent.

🔍 Founder Finds - Six quick startup updates.

🛒 B2B quick commerce startup Fairdeal.Market raised $15M led by Bertelsmann India to deliver to kiranas in 60 minutes. Boring distribution, venture-scale money.

🧠 AI-native learning platform ProLearn raised ₹30 crore pre-seed led by BEENEXT, before even launching publicly. AI edtech is back, apparently.

🏢 WeWork India closed Q4 FY26 with revenue up 29% to ₹696 crore and profit up nearly 80%. Coworking is quietly printing money again.

💻 Shastra VC raised a $100M third fund aimed squarely at AI, climate, space, and defence. More dry powder pointed at deeptech.

🇺🇸 The US invoked Section 301 against India and proposed new duties even as trade talks continue. Worth watching if you sell or source cross-border.

💍 Ex-Zomato cofounder's smart ring startup Gabit raised ₹36 crore from angels, chasing India's ₹85,000 crore wellness market. Wearables round two.

🍻 Drunk Business Idea: SweatEquity™

What if you got paid for how much you suffered in the heat?

Introducing SweatEquity™, a wearable that tracks how much you've sweated commuting in peak summer and converts it into discounts at cold-drink brands, AC showrooms, and ice cream shops. The more you suffer, the more you save. Built-in "main toh mar hi gaya" mode auto-orders a Coke when your body temperature spikes.

SweatEquity™. Turn your misery into miles.
