STARTUP BASE’S IDEA OF THE DAY
6 July 2026
🧊 ThandiChhat: a cooler home for ₹1,499
Every North Indian summer, the same thing happens. The top-floor flat becomes an oven. The tin-roof house is worse. For the roughly 200 million Indians with no AC, there is no escape button, just fans pushing hot air around and a long, sweaty wait for the sun to go down. The comfort gap is huge, and the fixes are either unaffordable or don't exist.
Here's what we're thinking:
💡 The Idea:
ThandiChhat is a boxed kit of special white roof paint that you roll on yourself, and your room gets noticeably cooler.
🛠️ Product:
The science is simple enough to explain to your dadi. A dark roof soaks up sunlight and dumps that heat into the room below. ThandiChhat's coating is highly reflective, so it bounces most of that sunlight straight back out. Less heat in the roof means a cooler room under it.
The ₹1,499 box has everything a first-timer needs. One can of coating, a roller, edge tape to seal the corners, and a one-page Hindi guide with a QR code that opens a step-by-step video. No contractor, no fancy tools, no electrician. If you would rather not climb up yourself, you can book a trained local applicator through WhatsApp and someone does it for you.
The magic moment: you paint the roof in the morning, and by afternoon the room below is 2 to 4 degrees cooler, cool enough to film a before-and-after reel that makes your whole society want one.
💵 The Model: ₹1,499 a kit, and because the stuff inside costs roughly ₹360 to ₹450 to make and pack, you keep 70 to 75 paise of every rupee at scale. Sell the kit once, then sell the applicator service on top for the people who don't want to DIY.
🚀 The Scale Play: Own the affordable-cooling shelf for non-AC India. Start with the roof coating, then add reflective tarps, window films, and a cheap yearly refresh coat that brings customers back every summer. That last bit turns a one-time paint sale into a habit, which is where the real money lives.

💰Founder Fuel - The Big Money News, made simple.
🤑 Money Shot: : Lending unicorn Moneyview just cleared its last big hurdle. SEBI has issued the final go-ahead for its ₹1,500 crore IPO, which pairs fresh shares with a chunk that lets early backers sell.
Here is why it matters: Moneyview is boringly, beautifully profitable. In the nine months to December it already booked more profit than in all of the previous year, sitting on a loan book of nearly ₹20,000 crore. The IPO lets investors like Accel, Tiger Global and Ribbit finally cash some of that in.
📈 Trend with Benefits: Here is a number that sounds amazing and means less than you think. Global startups raised a record $510 billion in the first half of 2026, more than all of last year put together, according to Crunchbase. Boom for everyone, right? Not quite. Just two companies, OpenAI and Anthropic, soaked up 43% of that pile, and AI startups took more than 70% of all funding in the second quarter alone. Strip those out and the market for everyone else looks pretty ordinary.

🔍 Founder Finds - Six quick startup updates.
🥬 Fresh-produce supply chain Ninjacart raised $6 million from existing backers like Accel and Nandan Nilekani and says it is now EBITDA profitable, with an IPO planned in two years.
Takeaway: it still posted a net loss last year, so read "EBITDA profitable" as real progress, not the finish line.
👟 PlayBlue, an omnichannel sports retail startup, raised $2.7 million to open physical stores and grow online. Takeaway: even in a quick-commerce world, founders are still betting people want to touch the shoes before they buy.
🏦 Mynd Fintech, part of the TReDS platform M1xchange, acquired C2FO India, creating a supply-chain finance player that will process around ₹60,000 crore a year.
Takeaway: in fintech, buying a rival's book of clients is often faster than building one from scratch.
🔒 The government sent notices to Telegram and Signal over their new username features, worried about impersonation and fraud.
Takeaway: if your product lets strangers message each other without a phone number, expect Delhi to come knocking.
🌙 Swiggy launched Late Night Eats, curated food from 10 pm to 5 am, after finding that one in four office workers order after 10 pm.
Takeaway: the night shift is a real and growing market, and not just in the metros.
❄️ Deep-tech startup Albatross Energetics raised ₹10 crore to scale its energy-efficient industrial cooling tech.
Takeaway: as India keeps heating up, cooling that does not wreck your power bill is quietly turning into a real business.
