STARTUP BASE’S IDEA OF THE DAY
10 July 2026
🗺️ Turn any place on Earth into a ring
Think about the last really meaningful gift you had to buy. For a big anniversary, an engagement, a milestone. You had two options. Cheap mass-produced jewelry that looks like everyone else's, or a custom piece that costs more than a two-wheeler. There's almost nothing good in the middle. So people either overspend or settle, and the moment deserves better than both.
Here's what we're thinking:
💡 The Idea:
TerraRing lets you drop a pin on any place that matters to you, a beach, a hill, a street corner, and turns the actual shape of that land into a wearable ring you can preview in 3D before you buy.
🛠️ Product:
You open the website and search for a spot. The place you met. The trek where you got engaged. Your hometown. Software reads the real shape of that land, every slope and ridge and coastline, and wraps it around a ring band. You see a photorealistic 3D preview instantly, spin it around, pick your size and metal.
Once you order, a jeweller casts it for real in silver or gold, finishes it by hand, adds an engraving if you want, and ships it in a nice box. Nothing is made until someone buys it. Every ring is made to order.
The magic moment: watching the exact slope of a place you love turn into a ring on screen, then unwrapping it weeks later and feeling that same place sitting on your finger.
💵 The Model: Rings sell for ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 depending on metal and finish. Because nothing gets made until it's sold, there's no inventory sitting in a warehouse and no markdowns on stuff nobody wanted. Once volumes rise, blended margins land around 60 to 70 percent. The whole model runs on "sell first, make second," which is exactly the pain traditional jewellers have with dead stock and cash stuck in unsold pieces.
🚀 The Scale Play: Start with engagements and anniversaries in India, where the emotional gifting market is huge and the short emotional videos ("I made a ring out of the mountain where he proposed") basically market themselves. Then go global, because a place-based memory works in any language. The endgame is becoming the default brand for on-demand heirloom jewelry, the name people think of when they want a gift that means something, not just something shiny.

🤑 Money Shot: : A 25-year-old company that makes gas analysers just pulled in one of the week's biggest cheques, and nobody on startup Twitter noticed. Goa-based Adage Automation raised ₹230 crore in a growth round led by InCred Growth Partners, with Global South Capital and Prachetas Capital joining in. Adage builds advanced gas analyser systems for oil and gas, steel, cement, power and other heavy industries where getting emissions and process data right is non-negotiable.
While everyone chases the shiniest AI wrapper, a quietly essential, deeply unsexy business raised nine figures on the back of two decades of trust and mission-critical work.
📈 Trend with Benefits: ChatGPT can finally talk like a person. On July 8, OpenAI launched GPT-Live, a new voice model built so it can listen and speak at the same time instead of waiting for you to finish. The old voice mode took rigid turns, so it would cut you off or freeze on a pause. GPT-Live holds space when you're thinking and lets you interrupt naturally. When you ask something hard, it quietly hands the question to a bigger model in the background and keeps chatting while it works. More than 150 million people already use ChatGPT voice features every week.
