STARTUP BASEβS IDEA OF THE DAY
15 July 2026
SnapSite: Your Local Business, Live on Google π²π
Type "plumber near me" into Google right now. Five names come up. Those five get every call in your area. Everyone else is invisible.
The good plumber down your street is not on that list. Not because he is bad. Because he has no website, and he is never going to make one. He does not have the time, the patience, or any interest in learning what a "hosting panel" is. He fixes pipes.
So the calls go to whoever showed up on Google. Every single day.
Here's what we're thinking:
π‘ The Idea:
SnapSite builds a proper, Google-friendly website for a local business entirely over WhatsApp, in a few minutes, with zero clicks and no editor.
π οΈ Product:
The plumber messages a WhatsApp number. "I'm a plumber in Pune." He sends five photos and a quick list of what he does.
That's the whole job. He does not open a laptop. He does not pick a template. A few minutes later, a live website link lands back in his chat. His name, his photos, his services, a big "Call Now" button, and a "Chat on WhatsApp" button. All written to rank when someone nearby searches for a plumber.
The magic is that it feels like texting a friend who happens to be a web developer. He never sees the machinery. He just gets a link, taps it, and there is his business, on the internet, for the first time.
The magic moment: he sends five blurry photos of a bathroom and 90 seconds later he is looking at his own website, live, and he immediately forwards it to his wife.
π΅ The Model: βΉ999 a month. That covers the site, the domain, the hosting, and monthly refreshes of the words so it keeps ranking. He never touches any of it.
Your cost to run one site is tiny, mostly the domain and some compute, so margins sit above 80%. The real money is in volume and in upsells later: a booking button, a payments link, a second location. Land them at βΉ999, grow the account over years.
π The Scale Play: There are millions of these businesses in India with a phone number and no website. You do not sell to them one by one. You scrape Google Maps, find every business with a number but no site, auto-build a sample, and WhatsApp it to them with one line: "This is your website. Want to keep it?"
Do that at scale and you are not a website tool. You are the front door to the internet for the entire informal economy, and you own the leads that flow through it.

π°Founder Fuel - The Big Money News, made simple.
π€Β Money Shot:Β : Groww's parent, Billionbrains Garage Ventures, reported its Q1 FY27 numbers this morning. Profit nearly doubled, up 94% year on year to βΉ735 crore. Revenue rose 66% to βΉ1,501 crore. Its transacting user base hit 2.2 crore, and its profit margin is now a fat 47.5%.
Sit with that margin for a second. Nearly half of every rupee Groww earns is profit. This is a company that was a scrappy mutual-fund app not that long ago.
πΒ Trend with Benefits:Β Temasek just sold a 2% stake in listed eyewear brand Lenskart for around βΉ1,940 crore. It is not alone. Since Lenskart's IPO lock-in expired in May, early backers including KKR, Alpha Wave, SoftBank and ADIA have collectively sold over βΉ10,000 crore worth of shares.
The Takeaway: know that the investor cheering you on today is, on a long enough timeline, planning exactly how they leave. Build so that their exit is a celebration, not a fire sale.

π Founder Finds - Six quick startup updates.
β‘ E3 Electric raised βΉ100 crore. The Bengaluru deep-tech firm building AI-powered modular electric scooters pulled in βΉ100 crore in equity and debt for its Series A, led by BluVenture Holdings.
π Medial shut down. The Bengaluru professional-networking app, once on Shark Tank India with 500,000 users across 30 countries, closed. It had raised $500,000 in late 2024.
π Temasek is not the only one leaving Lenskart. Beyond the headline sale, note this pattern is now the norm for every newly listed Indian tech company.
βοΈ HP India got fined βΉ139 crore. The competition regulator penalised HP India βΉ138.9 crore for rigging tenders on the government's GeM procurement portal.
π BUILT raised $2 million for barefoot shoes. The D2C footwear brand, co-founded by Vedant Lamba, closed a pre-seed led by Tanglin Venture Partners for "natural movement" shoes with wide toe boxes.
πΎ The government launched Gramodyam. NABARD and NSDC teamed up to launch Gramodyam, a programme to support rural entrepreneurship.
