STARTUP BASE’S IDEA OF THE DAY
31 July 2026

💡 Patternly: Sketch to Factory Ready in Seconds!
A designer draws something. A jacket, a bag, a great idea on paper. Then the hard part starts.

To actually make it, the factory needs a tech pack. A blueprint with exact measurements, every zipper and snap specified, a full materials list, tolerances, the works. Getting from sketch to that document takes weeks of back-and-forth, and every unclear line means another wrong sample, another delay, another few thousand dollars gone. For a small fashion brand, those lost weeks are lost sales, because in fashion the season does not wait.

Here's what we're thinking:

💡 The Idea:
Patternly turns a rough sketch into a proper, factory-ready tech pack in seconds, with the measurements, materials and exact hardware all specced out.

🛠️ Product:
A designer uploads a sketch. Hand-drawn, rough, digital, whatever they have.

Patternly reads it. It identifies the panels, the seams, the hardware. Then it builds the tech pack the factory actually needs: a materials list, annotated measurements, exact specs for the zippers and snaps, even links to suppliers for each part. What used to be a blank, intimidating document is filled in, instantly, reading like a machinist's blueprint instead of a designer's doodle.

The best bit is the instant preview. The designer sees seam allowances, graded measurements and precise hardware picks mapped right onto their sketch. That means they can request a quote and order a sample straight away, instead of waiting weeks for the paperwork to catch up.

The magic moment: a designer uploads a rough sketch and, seconds later, sees a complete factory-ready spec with exact zipper and snap SKUs mapped onto their drawing, ready to send to a sample house.

💵 The Model: $29 for a single tech pack if you just need one, or $299 a month for brands doing this regularly. Margins are strong, around 85%, because once the system runs, generating each spec costs very little.

There's a second revenue line too. When Patternly recommends specific suppliers for the zippers, fabric and hardware, and a designer orders through them, it earns a referral fee. So it makes money from the software and from being the bridge to the factory.

🚀 The Scale Play: Start as a tool for designers. Become the layer between every sketch and every factory.

Once brands and sample houses both run on Patternly-validated specs, you are the standard translation layer between an idea and a finished product. Sell seats to factories so they receive clean, validated tech packs directly. The endgame is being the plumbing for on-demand apparel manufacturing, where anyone can go from drawing to production without the multi-week mess in between.

💰Founder Fuel - The Big Money News, made simple.

🤑 Money Shot: : India's first-ever unicorn is finally going public, 18 years in.

InMobi, the Bengaluru mobile advertising company that became India's first unicorn back in 2011, has appointed four banks for a roughly $1 billion IPO. It is targeting a valuation of $5 to $6 billion, and it is moving its official home base from Singapore back to India ahead of the listing.

Here is the detail founders should not miss: Before this listing, InMobi's three founders bought back a big chunk of the company, around 25 to 30%, from early backer SoftBank. After that buyback, the three of them together own roughly 60% of the company they started.

That is the whole lesson. After nearly two decades and huge outside investment, the founders still control a clear majority of their business, and they made a point of buying more back right before going public.

📈 Big Drop: Japan just bet over $6 billion on building its own robot brain.

Japan's government, through a company called Noetra, is putting up to around $6 billion over five years into a homegrown AI foundation model built specifically for robots and machines. It is backed by Sony, SoftBank, Honda, NEC and roughly 44 companies in total, and it is buying tens of thousands of Nvidia's latest chips to train it. The goal is audacious: 10 million AI-powered robots deployed across Japanese industry by 2040.
